Album Notes: While CD 1350, volume 1 of the Hot Five and Seven re-creations by Pam Pameijer's "Hot Seven" concentrated on the 1925 to 1927 Armstrong sessions, this second volume covers that period and the later 1928 and 1929 Hot Five and Savoy Ballroom Five recordings, again played by the New Jazz Wizards with their highly skilled and idromatically ideal players, including Armstrong specialist Bent Persson and the Doddsian clarinet stylist Matthias Seuffert. Jim Synder and Dave Sager divide the trombone chores along the Kid Ory and Fred Robinson periods. This volume is graced by pianist Keith Nichols, who has recorded so many wonderful CDs for Stomp Off with his Cotton Club Orchestra. This is repertory jazz of the highest order - stomping, bluesy and with its own distructive arrangememts and creativity.
